The National Payroll Institute is closing one of the industry’s most persistent gaps by connecting qualified payroll professionals with employers seeking verified talent through the new PCP Candidate Registry.

The initiative responds to growing frustration among hiring managers who struggle to verify educational credentials in an increasingly competitive talent market. Traditional job boards often present candidates with unverified qualifications, forcing employers into lengthy screening processes that delay hiring decisions.

“The registry represents a significant step forward in connecting qualified candidates with employers seeking verified payroll expertise,” explains Christopher Pacella, Manager of Professional Accreditation & Standards at the National Payroll Institute. “By showcasing verified educational achievements, it helps candidates stand out and accelerates the hiring process for organizations looking for proven payroll professionals.”

The registry features PCP candidates who have successfully completed the comprehensive educational requirements for the PCP designation: PCL, PF1, PF2 and an eligible Introduction to Accounting course.

Unlike traditional job boards where qualifications can be difficult to verify, the registry gives employers immediate access to candidates whose educational achievements are already validated by the Institute. Each listing includes verified completion status, creating unprecedented transparency in the hiring process.

Every eligible candidate earns a professional digital badge to display on their LinkedIn profile, email signature and resume, too, which serves as something they can show off to their personal professional networks.

For candidates scoring over 90 per cent in their coursework, a coveted “With Distinction” badge provides additional differentiation that highlights academic excellence.

The registry launch reflects broader changes in how Canadian organizations approach payroll hiring. As compliance requirements become more complex and the strategic importance of payroll function grows, employers are prioritizing candidates with verified educational foundations over those with experience alone.

Pacella notes: “This shift benefits the entire profession. As more employers recognize the value of formal payroll education, it creates incentive for professionals to pursue structured learning pathways rather than relying solely on on-the-job experience.”

It also strengthens the value proposition of the PCP designation pathway. When candidates see tangible career benefits from educational investment, it creates positive momentum for the entire certification program.

“We see this registry as much more than a matching service,” Pacella concludes. “It positions the Institute as a bridge between education and employment in the payroll sector. As our candidate database grows, this has the potential to become the go-to resource for payroll hiring across Canada, fundamentally changing how organizations source and evaluate talent.”
